Oak Knoll Paseo Improvements
AUGUST UPDATE: Replacement furniture items are due to arrive by mid-late September!
In June, we announced Phase 1 of the Oak Knoll Paseo Improvement Project was underway, which involved the removal of original builder-installed items that no longer met our community standards. Shortly after, Phase 2 began with a comprehensive assessment to identify the best replacement items along this popular walkway.
We’re now excited to share that the next phase of the project is underway and includes the installation of new Adirondack chairs, benches, and picnic tables at several locations along the paseo. All of the new items will be made from HDPE (high-density polyethylene), which is naturally weather-resistant and ideal for outdoor furniture that can endure sun, rain, and other elements.
The specific additions include:Bluff Top Park - two Adirondack chairs in the viewing area.
- Dawnwood Park - two Adirondack chairs, a new picnic table, and a new bench.
- Pocket Park at Dawnwood and Maybeck - a new picnic table and trash can.
- On the east side of Maybeck - a new picnic table along the trail.
- End of Whisper Circle - two new Adirondack chairs.
- Laurelhurst and Walden Street - a new picnic table.
- Additionally, trash cans will be added to all dog waste station posts that don’t already have them.
Note - There have been some questions on the reduction of waste receptacles, so we would like to explain the thought process. During the evaluation process, original builder-installed concrete waste receptacles that had reached their useful life were removed and not all are being replaced. This .67 mile paseo once had 28 waste receptacles - most of which were greatly underutilized. Once the upgrades are completed, there will be a total of 14 waste receptacles, and the best part - those who enjoy walking the paseo, will not have to walk more than about 2 ½ minutes in between waste stations, which is no greater distance than the original developer-installed configuration. The average time it takes to walk between waste receptacles is just slightly over 1 minute.
Going from a total of 28 waste receptacles to 14 (includes new dog stations), LARMAC will save an estimated $3,216 annually (trash liners and labor).
