- Antonio Parkway – Turf Removal & Reba...
LARMAC is excited to announce another sustainability initiative in partnership with Santa Margarita Water District (SMWD), leveraging turf rebate incentives offered through the Metropolitan Water District of Orange County (MWDOC).
This program focuses on removing “non-functional” turf, which is an irrigated lawn that is purely decorative and not regularly used for recreation of public gatherings. The rebate program offers $5.00 per sq. ft. for turf removal and $1.00 per sq. ft. rebate for converting overhead spray to drip irrigation.
LARMAC recently received approval to remove 21,000 sq. ft. of turf and convert 47,000 sq. ft of spray irrigation to drip along Antonio Parkway. This will result in approximately $150,000 in rebates in addition to long-term savings on water and maintenance.
Once the turf removal is complete, the area will be replanted with a blend of natural grasses and plants found in the open spaces throughout Ladera Ranch. These will also tie into the plant palette that was created for the turf removal project along Crown Valley Parkway completed in 2014 that included the removal of 100,000 sq. ft of turf at $2.00 per sq. ft.
The rebate program also involves planting trees to help prevent erosion and reduce stormwater pollution. The selected trees will have good carbon sequestration qualities, which is important along high-traffic streets like Antonio Parkway.
This landscape renovation project is expected to take approximately 45 days. Turf removal will begin on Monday, November 10.
