Ladera Event Promotes Community Safety

On Tuesday, August 1, Ladera Ranch Community Services (LARCS) hosted National Night Out at Founders Park from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The nationwide event seeks to promote community safety and foster productive relationships between residents and law enforcement, public agencies, and first responders. The event allowed residents to interact with officials and explore the vehicles and equipment used to carry out their efforts to keep Ladera Ranch safe.

Popular with the kids was the California Highway Patrol Ford Police Interceptor Utility Vehicle and Harley-Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle, and the Marine light armored vehicles that were on display (courtesy of the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, based in Camp Pendleton).

The following attractions were on display:

  • Orange County Sheriff's Department displayed its Mutual Aid Bureau Humvee, patrol vehicles, Hazardous Device Squad “Bomb Squad”, K-9 unit, and the "Duke" Airship (helicopter) did a flyover
  • California Highway Patrol displayed its K9 unit in addition to its patrol cars, and Harley Davidson motorcycle
  • AFC Urgent Care, Mission Hospital Trauma Service, Rancho Mission Viejo Reserve, and Evolution Swim had booths
  • Santa Margarita Water District displayed their Confined Space Rescue vehicle and equipment

Food trucks were available for residents to enjoy dinner during the event.

The atmosphere was festive for all who attended. Residents conveyed their appreciation for those who serve in first-responder capacities, and the theme that emerged from the evening is, 'We're in it together." Community safety starts at home, and residents were encouraged to say something if they see something.
