Now that school is out for summer, it’s a good time to speak with your kids about safety.
From inspecting a bike’s brakes and tires to having ongoing discussions about riding etiquette, these are important efforts to ensure your children's and adults' safety. Reports from emergency room workers state that the injuries caused by reckless riders can be traumatic and significant.
Showing common courtesy to pedestrians and each other goes a long way. Slow down when approaching pedestrians or those who are walking. Announcing “behind you” or “to your left” as you cautiously approach is helpful, and being respectful and cautious when sharing the roads with automobiles is essential. We have an obligation to make safety a priority, and this starts at home.
