Medical Emergency Preparedness for Teens

This interactive workshop is designed to help high school students build confidence and practical knowledge around medical emergencies—skills that can make a real difference at home, school, or in the community.

The session combines a short PowerPoint presentation with hands-on activities to keep students engaged and involved. Participants will complete a personal medical history worksheet that they can take home and keep on hand for emergencies, helping them understand why this information is important and how it’s used by medical professionals.

The workshop will also cover common medical emergencies, with a focus on situations students may encounter in households with elderly family members or young children. Topics include recognizing warning signs, knowing what to do in the moment, and understanding when it’s time to call for help.

In addition, students will learn how the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system works, including when calling an ambulance is necessary—and when other options may be more appropriate. This portion of the workshop addresses many common questions and misconceptions about emergency care and first responders.

The session concludes with an open Q&A, giving students the opportunity to ask questions, clarify concerns, and learn more about emergency response and healthcare careers.
