May is Water Awareness Month: Water District Hosts Free Community Event

Save the Date: May is Water Awareness Month and Santa Margarita Water District is celebrating with its annual, family-friendly Water Festival on May 19. This is a terrific time with the entire family - you can learn about the science of water, various fascinating projects that the District is working on, and have fun interacting with reptiles while spending time together as a family.

May is Water Awareness Month and Santa Margarita Water District is celebrating with its annual, family-friendly Water Festival on May 19.

Everyone will enjoy a fun-filled day and gain a better understanding of what we do every day to deliver safe, clean water to our customers. There will be information on innovative projects the District is undertaking to ensure our water supply and reliability, water-efficient landscaping, and other ideas for a water-wise lifestyle.

The District will also offer tours of one of its major facilities to give customers a close-up look at where our water comes from and how we’re working to make sure—every day--water is there when you want it and there when you need it.

Other activities include: leak detection displays, native plant exhibits, vintage firetruck rides, reptiles, face painting, free food, and much more!

Each year, Santa Margarita Water District hosts its Water Awareness Festival, a family-friendly event where adults and children are able to learn more about water use efficiency and local supply reliability. SMWD customers are invited to enjoy a day of fun and learning with a hands-on tide pool exhibit, water efficient irrigation and native plant displays, water presentations, games and crafts, and music and face painting. Tours of the Chiquita Wastewater Treatment Plant are also offered.The event is held in the spring to celebrate the state of California’s recognition of May as "Water Awareness Month.”
