Ladera Ranch Maintenance Corporation (LARMAC) started a landscape renovation project to revitalize the Avendale Center median. The project includes the removal of approximately 18,000 square feet of turf to address ongoing maintenance challenges and to improve the overall appearance of this busy area. It's also part of a turf removal rebate project supported by Santa Margarita Water District, Metropolitan Water District and the Municipal Water District of Orange County, and qualifies for a $3.00 per square foot rebate.
Over the years, the expanding tree and palm canopy have created significant shade, but their roots have taken over the soil profile, making it difficult for the turf to thrive. Consequently, mowing has become increasingly labor-intensive, and because the space is not used for recreation, the need for turf is minimal.
The renovation will include converting the center strip into a functional mulch walkway and replacing the turf adjacent to the street with a selection of plants better suited for the landscape theme. We'll restore the existing boxwood hedge and replace overgrown shrubs that no longer fit the space. This upgrade will improve the aesthetics and visibility of the line of sight for pedestrians and vehicles in this high-traffic area.
The project will take approximately 30 days and includes upgrades to the irrigation system to make the landscape more water-efficient and sustainable. We appreciate your patience as we work to create a more functional and attractive space for the community.
