In preparation for upcoming asphalt improvement projects in Covenant Hills, multiple streets will also undergo landscape renovations to help preserve the integrity of the new asphalt and enhance the landscaping in the community.
The focus of these renovations is on the islands, cul-de-sacs, and parkways where irrigation runoff has been an issue. To address this issue, the existing turf and overhead irrigation will be removed and replaced with a drip irrigation system and Southern California climate-friendly plants. This transition to a drip system, coupled with the use of plants that require less water, serves multiple purposes – maintaining vibrant landscaping, conserving water, and most importantly, preserving the integrity of the asphalt pavement.
Great news, LARMAC is taking advantage of a new turf rebate program being offered by the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) at $3 sq ft + drip irrigation rebates. In partnership with our local water district, SMWD, LARMAC's applications have been given priority as available funds tend to go fast.
The project kicked off on Monday, April 1, and will take a bit longer than normal to complete as there are multiple steps involved in the rebate program. We appreciate your patience as we anticipate completing the project by late May.
Select LARMAC-maintained cul-de-sacs, parkways, and islands located on Adele, Cambridge, Connor, David, Emmy, Eric, Jenny, John, Julia, Kathryn, Katy Rose, Kelly and Michael - all of which are scheduled for street repairs next fiscal year.
Additionally, the following passive turf areas are going through this same conversion process.
- Antonio Pkwy (Benjamin to Covenant Hills Drive)
- Includes turf area by the fire station at the trailhead
- Avendale Median (Daisy to Sellas)
- Cox Sports Park Median
- Sienna Botranica Trail (across from the Avendale Club)
- Yukon Riley Trail (various sections)
