Ladera Residents Clean House this Spring

Ladera's Community Garage Sale and Go Green Ladera events were a perfect time for residents to spring clean and recycle.

If April is the time for spring cleaning, then Ladera Ranch residents cleaned house this past weekend. Ladera Ranch Community Services (LARCS) hosted the annual Community-wide Garage Sale and Go Green Ladera, a drive-thru recycling and donation event on Saturday, April 22, allowing residents to turn unused items into cash, donate household items, recycle electronics, and shred old documents.

Over 400 families registered for the garage sale, which got participants listed on LaderaLife.com as well as a directional street sign and fresh donuts, courtesy of participating Ladera-based realtors, who hand-delivered each box of donuts. The garage sale ran from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Go Green Ladera, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Go Green Ladera was held at Ladera Ranch Elementary/Middle School parking lots, where residents were able to shred up to five banker boxes of loose documents resulting in 10,000 lbs. of paper being shredded, courtesy of LARCS, donate 5,000 books to the Friends of the Ladera Ranch Library, and donate items to Goodwill of Orange County. LARCS also distributed 250 battery recycling buckets provided by OC Waste and Recycling (County of Orange).

Georgette Shrake, Chair of the LARCS Event Planning Committee (EPC), said the events were an overall success and that the EPC appreciates the resident volunteers who help make Go Green Ladera possible.

These springtime LARCS-organized events are popular with residents allowing them the convenience of selling and donating unused items one time per year. In a recent resident survey conducted by LARCS and LARMAC, the springtime events ranked as the 4th most popular events in a list that included Spring Celebration, Harvest Festival, July 4th Celebration, and the Summer Concert Series
